Description

An Unexpected Meeting:

Mimic’s processor was lost in thought as he and Subwoofer traveled through space. Right now, Subwoofer was busy, leaving Mimic to think back on their time on Earth. He couldn’t help looking at the datapad in his hands and wishing he had internet again. The videos he’d kept on the data pad had been over watched, them not amusing to him much anymore since he knew exactly what was coming.

This obsession was beginning to drive him a little crazy. Sometimes he wondered if he might find something like the movies from Netflix or the comical ‘memes’, as the humans called it, somewhere else in the universe.

Thankfully, they eventually landed. It wasn’t the nicest planet they’d landed on, but it wasn’t the worst. The planet was rather a rather rocky place, the ground being dark grey and purple. For now, both Neutrals wanted to get out of the ship and stretch their stabilizers. Being in a ship for who knows how long can make a bot kinda nuts.

So, while Subwoofer stretched his canine like stabilizers one way, Mimic went the other. They’d meet back up in one or two megacycle. Naturally, if something attacked them, they’d com the other for backup. Transforming to his small SUV alt mode, the blue and yellow bot was able to let out some of the tension in his frame.

------

As Mimic and Subwoofer had landed on the planet, another Neutral had as well. His name was DM-42, though he just preferred to be called DM.

Now, normally, he wouldn’t even stray this far from Earth, it having become his home since the war. But, the human friend he had made had been pestering him about space and it’s “many treasures”. In order for her to finally stop talking about it, he’d made a deal he’d go find something for her. It’d worked well enough.

So, he’d traveled from planet to planet trying to find something like he had said. He’d been doing this for what he knew had to be human weeks, if not longer. Running his digits over his screen, he prepared himself for more searching… again.

His digital optic scanned the area, nothing either he, nor the human, would find interesting. With an audible sigh, he began walking. He wasn’t sure how long he walked, but he eventually took out an item the human had gave him to keep him entertained. She called it an iPad. The name of the object was odd, but she’d put some videos and such on it to at least help with the long travels.

The grey and lime green bot turned on one of the recordings, it was about another odd thing called Vimeo and Try Not to Laugh Challenges. These were some of the newer ones that had come out before he’d left on this little jaunt. And, as he continued searching, he chuckled to the video, also wondering how his little friend was doing.

------

Mimic had changed back to his bot form after about a mega-cycle, him walking around and just enjoying the quiet surroundings. Yet, as he continued, he began to hear something. At first it he couldn’t quite understand what his audio receptors were picking up. But then it dawned on him. The blue bot was hearing something similar to the videos he had on his datapad!

Please be internet, please, please… Primus, I am so BORED on that ship....

The bot thought to himself as he made his way to the sound. Hiding behind some of the larger rocks, he looked to see some grey and bright green minicon traversing the area. The stranger sat down next to a pile of rubble, beginning to look through it. As Mimic observed him, he could find no symbol indicating whether the mech was an Autobot or Decepticon.

Yet, he had a decent idea that the other wasn’t a Decepticon, simply by the way he continued to watch more videos. They were distinctly human voices, Mimic could discern that much. Decepticons tended to hate anything organic or related to organics.

Mulling it over in his processor, he tried to figure out what to do. His obsession with videos was eating at him, but he didn’t inherently trust anyone when meeting someone for the first time. So, he took out a device of his and made a single energy clone. Since a single clone looked identical to him and could do basic functions like talking, he figured the other bot wouldn’t know the difference. Anyway, it seemed the safest solution when dealing with this situation. Watching it leave, he observed the situation unfold.

------

“No… No… No…” DM sighed, tossing one uninteresting rock behind him after another.

Flopping backwards, he looked up at the stars. His green optic on his screen ‘closing’ as he thought about what else he could look for. Of course, he knew she was fascinated with rocks, which was the whole reason he was scouring so hard, but he tried to think of something else, anything else. Unless he wanted to bring some random creature from another planet, which would probably kill it, he wasn’t really coming up with more solutions.

Yet, there was a sound that drew his attention. It was nearing him and then stopped not to far. Looking to the sound, the grey bot saw a blue and yellow one quietly watching him. His screen ‘blinked’, but he sat up.

“Uh… Hi there, uh, stranger,” The minicon said, not sure what was going on. However, the blue bot didn’t move nor did it have a symbol on it, “Are… you a neutral?”

“Yeah… Are you? And… is that… Human memes?” The blue bot finally spoke.

“Yes to both questions. Wow, haven’t seen another Neutral in… I don’t know how long,” DM nodded, though he stood up with the iPad, “You must’ve been to Earth if you know memes.”

The other bot nodded, “Just for a while.”

    “I’m DM-42.”

    “My name’s Mimic.

Though DM couldn’t see the other’s optics, he could almost sense where they were looking. His gaze was on the small device his human had given him.

“You must enjoy those videos my little human friend likes,” the grey bot said, handing it to him, “Here, you can have it. I wouldn’t necessarily give something away to someone I don’t know, but… I haven’t met another Neutral in so long. It’s just nice not having someone constantly trying to shred or chase me.”

The other bot looked a bit stunned, “What? Really?”

“Yeah. It’s no big deal. My friend wanted me to have it so I wouldn’t feel lonely, but I don’t think she’d mind me giving to someone if they seemed to really want it,” There was a slightly awkward silence, which caused DM to rub the back of his helm, “Well, I, uh… Guess I better go. I gotta find something for the human. She’s all excited for me to come back. Bye, Mimic, nice to meet you.”

“Thanks, uh… DM-42,” The Mimic clone said, watching the other bot walk away. Yet he spoke up again as he received a new order from the real Mimic, “DM-42, a few miles south of here are some crystalline structures, if your human friend would like those!”

Dings looked back, a bit surprised, but his expression changed to show happiness, “Thanks!”

With that, DM changed his course and headed south while the clone went back to Mimic and handed him the piece of human technology. He was still suspicious of the device, but that was something he could easily check back on the ship. Deactivating the energy clone, he returned to the vessel where Subwoofer was. The two went to check the device and it was indeed clear.

“I have more videos, yes!” Mimic said gleefully, as he sat down and began to watch some, him ignoring Subwoofer’s optic roll.

I love this! You wrote Mimic so well!
And tbh I didn't even notice the real Mimic in the background until I was reading and I had to go back up to see! XD

Thank you so much for entering and good luck! <3
